WHAT DO I FEED MY PUPPY ON?

The breeder should give you the advice on what to feed your puppy on from there you progress to a junior food.

If you would like to alter the diet then below are some ideas.

TIN FOOD DIET
with the tin food diet you can feed a little cooked veg.

This diet is preferred by a lot of dog owners as they feel that a meat diet is better than dried complete food.

BREAKFAST porridge mixed with milk or weaning milk, a raw egg or scrambled ( there is concern now about salmonella ) or Weetabix and milk.

LUNCH tinned puppy food which must be of good quality, mixed with a small bite mixer and softened with milk. Do not feed adult tin food as it can be too rich or very basic, which will not have enough nutrients in.

TEA.... porridge or Weetabix with milk + a little grated cheese, but not too much

SUPPER... tinned puppy food with a small bite mixer softened with milk.

COMPLETE FOOD..
This MUST be of good quality and made for puppies. Adult complete will not do, especially the cheaper ones.

With complete puppy food you can feed four times a day softened with milk. You can also add the egg and the cheese. Or leave the food down all the time so puppy feeds when he is hungry. Most owners prefer to feed set meals, they then know puppy gets the right amount, instead of snaking. It is up to the individual, you can also mix in a little cooked vegetables with the complete, this also is a good food.

FRESH MEAT DIET
{if feeding chicken, mince it or cut very fine}

This is a popular diet and some people will swear by it,
if you ask the puppy so would they!

BREAKFAST porridge or Weetabix mixed with milk or weaning milk + egg

LUNCH lightly cooked minced meat and juices + small bite mixer with a little grated cheese

TEA as breakfast or lightly cooked chicken with cooked vegetables and mixer with milk drink to finish.

SUPPER as lunch.

You can swap the meats around and feed fish lightly boiled. This is a well balanced diet
(look for bones in fish)

RAW MEAT DIET.
This has become very popular being classed as a natural diet.

Still feed the milky porridge and Weetabix, breakfast remains the same.

The mince meat is fed raw, the chicken is lightly cooked and minced, the veg is still used but raw mince tripe from the pet shop is fed raw. It must be beef tripe of good quality .

This diet has been used by breeders of dogs for many years and has now come to the forefront again.

I hope this has given you some ideas on what to feed and how often. The diets are also a good weaning diet.

The weaning milk mentioned above can be brought from any pet shop, also evaporated milk watered down for very young puppies is also full of goodness.
