Keeping your Dog Active

THE CASE FOR COLLAGEN

As a dog ages it is automatically assumed that he (or she) will begin to stiffen up.

Activities which previously were no problem become a problem like jumping into the car, climbing up & down stairs or just getting up.

Dog owners are constantly on the search for some natural way of alleviating this loss of mobility and here we can tell you about the most natural, and effective way of keeping your dog active.

Collagen.

A little known fact is how important Collagen is to your dog’s mobility. This protein, which amounts to one third of the body’s protein, forms the major constituent in joint cartilage, bones and connective tissues and is essential in the formation of your dog’s skeletal support structure.

When there is wear and tear or degenerative activity in the joint cartilage, or damage to the connective tissues, it is then that the body requires additional collagen. When the body is provided with the collagen amino acids these can help in the rebuilding of cartilage and the normal result is a happy lively animal.

How can we provide additional collagen?

Although meat often contains a certain amount of collagen, very little of this is used by the body due to its fibrous nature. For the collagen to be used effectively it needs to be broken down into its amino acids.

There is now a food supplement available for dogs which is rich in Collagen Hydrolysate. It is called Activ-Pet and is formulated in the U.K. In addition to containing a high percentage of Collagen Hydrolysate, its ingredients include Vitamins D for bone growth and calcium balance, B6 for the metabolism of amino acids, Calcium for bone, and muscle formation and Magnesium for bone formation and synthesis of protein.

Forty years ago, a rheumatologist in Prague discovered a process which did just that. The process was called hydrolisation and the final product is Collagen Hydrolysate.

Since Activ-Pet was introduced, it has been helping dogs of all breeds and all ages to regain and maintain their mobility. Bruce, an elderly Great Dane from Northern Ireland suffered chronic arthritis in an old injury. Being given this Collagen Supplement gave him back his mobility and a much improved quality of life.

A case earlier this decade, of a puppy born with seriously underdeveloped cartilage. The Vet recommended that she be put to sleep but instead her owner gave her Activ-Pet. The end result was a happy, lively dog with no sign of the cartilage deficiency which was ‘nearly the death of her’.

For those who believe that ‘prevention is better than cure’, incorporating this Collagen Supplement into your dog’s normal balanced diet could only be beneficial.
